Welcome to the Irish Civil Service Personnel Code website
The Personnel Code website assembles relevant circulars, circular letters, general council reports and
letters to heads of Departments or Personnel Officers on personnel matters.
- Please note that individual queries in relation to
any circular or letter should be raised in the first instance with the
officer's Personnel Unit.
- Personnel Sections may email this Department if any
difficulties arise from the application of a circular.
- There are links on the Contacts and Links pages
which enable users to send automatically addressed e-mail queries to and
access the websites of those sections concerned specifically with
Personnel Code-related matters.
Using the Search facility
- Users should note that the search facilities on this site are constructed in such a way as
to enable comprehensive and specific searches to be carried out, based on
the requirements of a particular query and the amount of information a
user possesses.
- Depending on how much
information exists relating to a query, users should opt for either a
‘Full Text’ or ‘Search Title’ search, and then further narrow or broaden
their search by using some or all of the various criteria i.e. Document
Type – Year – Category – Sub-Category.
- Where a user is
looking for specific information relating to a particular subject – for
example, probation – then the ‘Search Title’ option should be used.
- Where a user is
looking for more broad-ranging information on a subject - for example,
bank holidays – then the ‘Full Text’ option should be used (with/without
the ‘Exact Match’ option).
